Rare postal map of the Russian Empire, which appeared in Von Reilly and Kuhn's Atlas Universae rei veredariae bilinguis ... Allgemeiner Postatlas von der ganzen Welt . . . , published in Vienna in 1799.
Von Reilly & Kuhn's atlas is the first postal atlas of Europe. Consisting of 40 maps, it systematically depicted all of the postal routes in Europe in remarkable detail for the 18th Century.
The map shows postal routes extending to the northern parts of Sweden and east to Tobolosk and Magnitnaja, in Orengurg.
While the map presents minimal topographical features, the atlas is of great importance.
