A Pomeiooc Village in Virginia
Interesting view of a native American settlement, based upon De Bry. Includes dwellings, domestic animals such as oxen and donkeys [?], palisades, guns or muskets, and council fire.
This image is derived from Theodor de Bry's America, Pt. 1, plate 19, where it illustrates the native American village of Pomeiooc in Virginia. De Bry's text identifies the building with the pagoda-like roof as the temple. Here a scene of agriculture or farming, palm trees, and pine trees is added to the image.
The view is drawn from the first comprehensive geographical dictionary of America in Italian.
