Rare separately issued vintage pictorial map of Stanford University and the surrounding areas of Palo Alto, California.
Most of the major buildings of the Stanford campus are labeled. Businesses that paid the publisher have their signs and contact details listed on the map. There are quite a few humorous cartoons, including more than one derogatory vignette focused on Oski the Bear, the mascot of the University of California, Berkeley.
According to the imprint line, the map was produced by Jim Wodark and Camptoons of Denver, Colorado.
The 1980s were a Golden Age for this kind of pictorial mapmaking in Silicon Valley, with dozens of maps documenting the rapidly evolving technology company landscape in region. However, this is the first such view of Stanford that we have seen on the market
Jim Wodark is now a fine artist focusing on plein air and Western subjects in Colorado.
